Step 8 Present Findings
At this final step the energy modeler presents a high level overview of the results to the sustainability champion and other relevant municipal stakeholders. The focus of the presentation should be what the overall impact of the shallow and deep retrofits on the carbon emissions of the local building stock could be and what next steps the city may want to pursue.
The presentation should start by introducing the city and its emissions reduction goals. Models should start with a small test area (“seed” UBEM) of about 100 buildings of varying types to prove out the process and refine templates as necessary. The justification for choosing this project area should be included in the presentation as well. The sustainability champion’s key questions should be outlined, and the ways in which the UBEM will be used to answer these should be identified. The assumptions, such as energy cost and emissions factors should be outlined. The GIS manager should provide a map of the seed area to give context to the number of buildings analyzed, the age of the buildings, and the primary building use. The energy modeler can then follow this up with a screen capture of the 3D model detailing either energy use or the building templates used. Then, the energy modeler should export the final results from the visualizer and highlight the key properties of each of the retrofit scenarios. The final comparison of scenarios is used to inform the sustainability champion of the feasibility of the city's targets, and possible actions to reach these targets. The entire team should also reflect upon the lessons learned through this project, and their experience with using the tools.
